What is Magitaku?
Magitaku is a home learning assistance program specifically created to prepare children for elementary school entrance exams. It is structured so that children naturally develop good study habits through daily printed exercises delivered by home printer. The materials are crafted to encourage parent-child conversations, turning study time at home into cherished family memories.
The Epson Connect API is used to automatically deliver the lessons to each household's printer via the cloud, thereby combining the benefits of printed media with the convenience of digital integration.

The biggest barriers to home learning faced by dual-income families
── What challenges did you see in terms of home learning in households with children preparing for elementary school entrance exams? What specific difficulties did dual-income families face?
Yokoyama: My husband and I were both working full time when my children were small and getting ready for elementary school. With our daily schedules so full and busy, we were able to allocate only an hour a day for home learning, a half hour in the morning and another half hour at night. I keenly felt that the biggest challenge was in learning at home efficiently.

The idea for Majitaku was borne from the founder's own experience with home learning
── How does the Majitaku service meet the challenges of home learning that you personally experienced?
Yokoyama: Given that 70% of families with children preparing for elementary school entrance exams in Japan are dual-income households, I wanted to create a service that would help families like mine-those with limited time-learn at home more efficiently.
The word "efficient" doesn't simply mean saving time; it reflects the core values we hold dear. Our goal is to enhance the quality of parent-child interaction while also enabling children to learn at home in a way that feels less burdensome for both children and their parents or guardians. While saving time is important, our core mission is to enhance learning through meaningful, high-quality parent-child engagement.
Encountering Epson: The moment co-creation began
The key word is passion

── How did you come to collaborate with Epson? And what impression did you get when you actually started co-creating?
Takagi: We had a chance to share our ideas with a consultant in DX innovation at Epson, and we got an introduction from that person.
Yokoyama: We wanted to co-create with Epson because Epson is not just a printer manufacturer-they're a team that is passionate about education. Over the past decade or so, I've worked with other firms, but the people you meet don't necessarily always bring high energy and genuine commitment to joint projects. In contrast, the Epson team quickly grasped the challenges in the education market even faster than we did ourselves and shared our desire to change the current environment. Their support gave us a strong sense of reassurance and was incredibly encouraging.
User feedback proves it! Majitaku fosters good study habits, and the printer shines as a learning partner.
── What kind of feedback have you received from families actually using the service?
Yokoyama: The families using our service have children who are seriously studying at home to prepare for entrance exams, and our repeat rate has reached 93%. The printer isn't just something that "sits there." Children eagerly wait every morning for the exercises to come out.
We feel strongly that, through this daily routine, the printer plays an integral role in home learning. We sense that the printer evolves into something new when it is combined with Majitaku. It's no longer just a printing device; it becomes a product that supports family learning. We'd love to team up with Epson to bring the "Bonjiri" model to life-a fun idea inspired by our mascot character that might just surprise people with what a printer can do.

The future of printers and home learning
── What impact do you hope MagicAl Pass will have on society, and what is your vision for the future?
Yokoyama: First, in the elementary school entrance exam market, we want to provide dual-income households with the time to create good memories using Majitaku. We want to provide more families with learning experiences that create connections between parent and child, even when time is limited.
In the future, we want every home to have a learning partner. The co-creation activities between MagicAl Pass and Epson will expand the possibilities of home learning. We will continue to transform home education by making it more accessible, engaging, and effective.
