Creating to the Future: Co-creating the future of printing and scanning that will change education, daily life, entertainment, and culture in Taiwan

Epson Innovation Challenge 2025 was held under the theme "Creating to the Future," with the goal of developing future-oriented solutions that integrate printing, scanning, and AI technologies.

Recruitment began in December 2024. A total of 98 teams, including startups and students, submitted their ideas. After a rigorous document screening process, 26 of those teams (91 participants in total) were selected to compete in the main event.
During the selection process, participants were given a technical lecture on the Epson Connect API by Epson Taiwan's engineering team. They also got hands-on mentoring on business model development and pitching from leading venture capitalists in Taiwan. This support system helped teams refine their ideas from both a technological and commercialization perspective. Demo Day, the final judging event, was held on April 19, 2025, and the winning teams were announced.

New value created by integrating Epson Connect API with AI
Innovation promoted across industry and technology boundaries

The climax of the event, Demo Day, was held in two sessions, morning (the first round) and afternoon (the second round). In the first round, five judges visited the presentation tables of all 26 teams one by one. They experienced the service prototypes and demos up close, evaluating the feasibility of the ideas and the quality of the user experience. Each team creatively showcased their unique demo experience by leveraging the API-AI combination. For example, some teams brought in custom display panels tailored to limited space, while others had judges interact directly with their apps, leaving a strong impression of the service's practicality.

After the first round, 10 teams were selected by the judges to advance to the final pitch session in the second round. These finalists presented their ideas on stage in front of an audience of over 100 people. A wide range of projects was showcased that created new added value in everyday life-such as in education, daily living, culture, and entertainment-through the integration of cutting-edge technologies like generative AI, voice recognition, and AI-OCR with the Epson Connect API.

Which solution idea rose to the top among the 98 teams?

Let's take a look at the award-winning teams and their innovative projects from Epson Innovation Challenge in Taiwan 2025.

Gold: PROJECT:ACE (Team name: Did you UX today)
An advanced personalized learning support system enabled by AI and printing

The gold-winner, PROJECT:ACE, uses AI to analyze students' incorrect answers and identify their weak areas. Based on the analysis, PROJECT:ACE automatically generates practice questions and explanations aligned with Taiwan's new national curriculum guidelines. By integrating with Epson Connect API, the system can instantly print personalized exercises for each student. It also supports AI-based grading through scanned answer sheets and provides a dashboard view of each student's learning progress. The system links with the school's internal evaluation system to enable on-demand printing of certificates of achievement. This promises to both boost student motivation and reduce teachers' workloads.

Team representative Chen emphasized that we are entering an era where printers generate content and that PROJECT:ACE has the potential to become the foundation of smart classrooms.

Silver: TuneJet/MeetingInk-AI sheet generation (Team name: DeepWave)
Visualization of audio data and operational transformation

Silver-winner TuneJet/MeetingInk is an AI solution that leverages high-precision analysis of music and voice for applications ranging from music education to business documentation. It meets the needs of workplaces that want to document, visualize, and securely manage voice data. Working with the Epson Connect API, the MeetingInk meeting transcription service enables a seamless, one-stop workflow, from transcription to signature and printing. The service is already being adopted by Taiwanese enterprises and government-affiliated organizations.

CEO Mr. Yeh said, "The Epson Connect API is the final piece of our service puzzle-it enhances the completeness of information delivery."

Bronze: Paper.Museum (Team name: BearDBT)
Creating 3D stories using AI and printing for a hands-on parent-child experience

Paper.Museum, the bronze-winner, is a hands-on paper craft solution that combines AI image generation with printing technology. By simply uploading a photo from a smartphone, users can instantly print a custom paper craft from an Epson printer-kicking off a fun, educational hands-on activity. By combining the Epson Connect API, the solution allows users to immediately transform photos taken at tourist spots into personalized crafts to be experienced. It shows promise for applications in education, tourism, and caregiving. UX Design Director Lin said that assembling a story with their hands leaves a lasting impression on children and emphasized the importance of high-quality experiences in an era of declining birthrates.

From co-creation to social implementation-Turning sustainable innovation into real-world services

Epson Innovation Challenge is more than just a business idea contest. The proposals generated here are seen as projects for real-world implementation, projects that integrate the Epson Connect API and hardware to solve customer issues. These ideas are expected to evolve into next steps through open innovation with a diverse range of companies, organizations, and institutions. Epson Taiwan will now begin supporting the award-winning teams in the commercialization and market deployment of their services.

Epson sees that printing is no longer just an output method-it is becoming a hub that connects services and user experiences. We will thus continue to promote the co-creation of value through open innovation, not only in Taiwan but globally, while providing IoT edge devices and platforms. There are some exciting upcoming events, so please stay tuned.
